Can I increase my personal money/credit card cover?
A number of the insurers we act on behalf of offer this
cover as a standard in their policies. These amounts can
generally be increased for an additional premium.
What security do I need on my windows and doors?
The level of security needed depends on the area that you
live in. Some areas require minimum security levels which
generally consist of key operated window locks and a 5 lever
mortise lock being required.
I live in a shared house/flat can I get insurance
for my contents only?
The insurers we act on behalf of need to cover the contents
of each individual living at the property on one policy.
My child is at university are their contents covered?
A number of insurers we act on behalf of will cover your
child's contents at university. The amount covered is typically
a percentage of your total contents sum insured.
Will my jewellery be covered in and away from the
home?
Jewellery can be covered in and away from the home. The
insurers we act on behalf of have different cover limits
for jewellery and additional premiums may apply depending
on your individual circumstances and policy.
I have a laptop; can it be covered away from the
property?
For an additional premium your laptop can be covered away
from your property. However the additional premium applied
will depend on your policy and whether the laptop is used
for personal or business use.
Are items in my outbuildings covered?
The insurers we act on behalf of generally offer a percentage
of the total sum insured to cover outbuildings.
What does legal protection cover?
The cover your legal protection gives you depends on the
individual insurance company offering you the protection.
Typically legal cover will cover you for: employment &
contract disputes, bodily injury, property protection and
legal defence expenses.
What is the standard single item limit?
Depending on the individual insurer this sum will vary.
A common single item limit is 1,500 pounds.
Is my mobile phone covered?
A number of the insurers we use do cover mobile phones in
and away from the home. Ultimately though it depends on
the individual insurer and level of cover your policy offers
you.
Can my personal possessions be covered outside of
the UK?
Not all of our insurers offer this cover but some insurers
offer up to 60 days world-wide cover.
What is meant by the term ‘Personal possessions’?
Personal possessions are an extension which will cover your
contents away from the home.
What are classed as valuables?
Each insurer defines valuables differently. Valuables typically
include: any article composed of precious metals or incorporating
precious stones, jewellery, firs, watches, works of art,
antiques, curios and collections of stamps/coins/medals.
Does my policy include public liability and occupiers
liability cover?
Generally all policies include some level of cover for public
and occupiers liability. Different insurers may provide
different amounts of cover.
Will my golf clubs be covered?
Cover is available. However insurers would cover them in
different ways. Depending on their value they may need to
be specified to be covered on the policy.
Are pedal cycles automatically covered?
A number of insurers will cover pedal cycles as standard.
However some insist that they are specified on the policy
and additional premiums may apply.
I have a musical instrument can it be covered?
Musical instruments can be covered. However additional premiums
may apply and there will be some exclusions.
What is the difference between new for old cover?
New for old cover, covers your contents for the main risks
of fire, theft and storm damage on a new for old basis,
That is the cost of replacing the item as new and not allowing
for depreciation.
What is accidental damage cover?
Accidental damage covers you for unexpected and unintended
damage caused by sudden and external means, an example would
be accidentally dropping paint on the floor.
My property has had a history of subsidence and
has been underpinned how would this affect my insurance?
The policy is likely to be subject to an increase in premium.
The insurer will usually require a structural report.
Will my buildings insurance be index linked?
Yes.
Can I insure my flat for buildings insurance?
This will depend on your individual circumstances. Each
insurer has different guidelines for insuring flats.
Do I need to insure my property for its full value?
Your property needs to be insured for the full rebuilding
cost. This is normally less than the property value.
My property is a listed building will this affect
my premium?
Some insurers will apply an additional premium. Cover will
be subject to further questions regarding the property.
My property is near a river/sea how does this affect
my policy?
Additional questions will be asked to establish the distance
and possible risk from the river/sea.
Do you provide insurance for holiday homes?
Yes.
What is accidental damage?
Accidental damage covers you for unexpected and unintended
damage caused by sudden and external means, an example would
be accidentally putting your foot through the roof in the
loft.
How much will my premium increase if I add accidental
damage cover?
The additional premium charged depends on the insurer and
your individual circumstances.
I own a property that I rent out, can you provide
insurance?
Yes we provide a scheme specifically for landlords.
